• Where do children think their food comes from?

    There appears to be some confusion amongst British children according to a recent poll by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF). The BBC News article – ‘Cheese is from plants' - study reveals child confusion’ highlights some worrying perceptions of what children’s food is and where it comes from, including the perception that bread and pasta are made from meat! Let’s hope that the numerous campaigns and initiatives out there by different parties and groups will go some way to helping children understand where their food comes from and what they should be eating. Here on the Isle of Wight we are lucky enough to have some fantastic local produce and ventures such as the Cowes Food Show and Incredible Edible Wight showcase this. Of course, the best way to learn about where your food comes from is to visit the source! Westover Farm and several other Island farms offer the chance to visit a farm and discover where food begins….
